What size dispies/deeper divers do you use for your braided/wire/mono dipsies?

When i see reports of wire dipsies being set out 120+', I have to assume that small dipsies are being used as the large (124mm) would definitely be hitting bottom (at least in the 35-60 FOW we've been fishing the last couple weeks out of Chicago).

We only use the 124mm Deeper Divers with mono line - which I know is not a method well viewed by many on this board. I'd like to get into running braided/wire dipsies but it sounds like I need to go out and purchase some smaller dipsies for it.

What size do you use for your setups?

I run the medium size. The larger size (1) will get you deeper quicker, but I stay with all mediums. What you have the setting on is going to dictate how deep you run also. Go to the Luhr Jensen site and they have a chart that shows what you depth is, at what speed, and depending on what line you are running. Running them with or without the ring will also make a difference.

I only have Magnums. If you put the setting on a 3 (to make it run further from the boat) you will be running more line to get to the same depth as a lower setting would. With my small boat and less rods I run all my dipseys on a 3 setting

I run the #1's but also have a few of the smaller sizes. I also picked up some mini-Walker divers for fishing shallow. we'll see how that works.

I use all the mag deeper divers (124mm). Although i do have 2 sets of weights for them. I use 107 weights on my 124 divers for running shallower and then when i want to go deeper i put the big weights back on the 124s. I picked up this tip at a seminar by either fuzzy bear or Best Chance at a SU Indiana meeting last spring and it has worked great.

For 99% of the time, I have just used the size 1 (3.75" diameter) LJ dipsy divers with the normal, "thin" o-ring that comes with them. I run these on braid and wire. I do not run mono divers at all. This year, I have been experimenting with one Walker deeper diver on a wire rod. This is a magnum-sized diver and, so far, the only issue I have had is with the weight moving on its own. I have tightened it several times, but it keeps changing settings and causing tangles. Time to get out the epoxy.

Over the last several weeks, I've been fishing in 30'-50' of water, so the divers have been out between 50' and 75'. When fishing offshore, however, it is not uncommon to have them out 200' or more. Just have to figure out how much line and what setting will get you the depth you want to target. Good Luck!

I used a silcone sealant to hold my weights in place on the Lure Jensen Dipsey Divers. I used it sparingly so if for some reason I want to change them I can take the screw out and pop them off and realign them to what I want. I'm wondering if just putting a thin piece of rubber gasket material between the weight and the diver would create enough friction to hold them.

I can tell you that this year we have had a reduction in fish taken off of dipseys. we have used mag orange ones for ever with a 4' leader behind it. I am in the process of extending my leader and going to clear ones!

I run dipsy's with a very low catch rate. Using the dipsy, how far back should I run a spoon or dodger/fly. Has anyone ever run a dodger/spoon. I use braided line to the dipsy and mono on the serving side. Any help would be appreciated.

I run my Spoon 6 feet back clean, without dodger/flasher. With dodger fly I use a 3 foot leader to the dodger and then (and I'm in the minority here) a 28-30" leader to the fly. All my leaders are 40 pound Berkley Big Game.

Do you have a preference to color on the dipsys. I use the larger dipsy, orange, white, green. Set them on 3,but they never really go far left or right of the boat as I would like. They move to a 11 or 1 o'clock position. I would like to get them to a ten or two o'clock position. Any suggestions?

I use longer rods (9+ feet) and set them so they are pretty close to horizontal. I have three dipseys, one green, one glow and one clear. Haven't used the clear one in over a year. The dipsey is probably further away than you think.

My line counter is zero with the rod tip where it is in the rod holder and the dipsey at the water... Of course, the distance to the water from my rod tip is only 2-3 feet anyhow
